I wrote a play!!

Hellooooo, stranger!

You may or may not be pleased to know that I haven’t yet shuffled off this mortal coil. I’m still alive, despite my bloggy silence.

We’re midway through summer now, which means the trauma of my first year of Open Uni has sufficiently faded (in all seriousness, it was wonderful, and I passed my Design Thinking module – yay!). I’ve also just had a fortnight off work, which allowed for the reading of SIX novels (more than I’ve read all year, sadly), and some quiet reflection over creative endeavours.

Who’s idea was it to coincide my first week back at work with this…?

Short Attention Span

That’s right! Ms. Inactive has only gone and written a short play, which will be performed in no less than TWO days time!

I’m so excited! I swung by the Govanhill Baths last week to watch the rehearsals, and it was all I could do not to squeak after every line they read out. Writers – have you ever had your own work read out in front of you? It was a surreal experience, and I was howling at the sound effects created by my director, Tom Brogan. He and the lovely Karen Barclay will be directing the plays, and I simply cannot wait!
Alas… it is Sunday night, and so I must get myself mentally prepared for going back to work in the morn. I’ll just leave this link here for anyone who wants to come see the play, before I attend to my bubble bath.

If you’re in the Glasgow area, I’d LOVE for you to come along and let me know what you think. Here are the synopses of each of the short plays:[spacer height=”20px”]

Ava and the Seagull by Róisín Kelly
Ava loves Peter. Colm loves Ava. And Big Bad One. A dark tale of bird love, betrayal and revenge.
[spacer height=”20px”]
Smokers by Julie McDowall
The play is about Julie’s favourite topic – the end of the world – and shows two people enjoying a last cigarette before they have to descend into a nuclear bunker.

Dynamite FM by Catherine Noble (Moi!)
Newly single Jason has high hopes for his mate’s pirate radio party. He’s looking to let off some steam, forget his problems, and find a hot burd who’ll take him home for the night. Any takers?

The Answer by Meggan Jameson
Could someone really tell you answers to the question you’ve always wanted to ask? Three woman one night in a flat think so, and they are about to find out. What they didn’t bank on was that it might not be to the questions they thought they had.

I’ll be sure to let you all know how it went, of course. Wish us luck!

Hope everyone is splendid 😀

  1. Love your writing. Would have come to see the play, had I known about it at least a week ahead if time!

Could you kindly keep me posted about your activities? I would love to come and see our play or whatever it is next.

Glasgow is not that far away, I live by City Airport, surely there are flight to hop onto.

As I have not had holidays for a long time, this would be a lovely break.

    All best,
    Beatrice
